The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team secured a significant victory on Monday night in Dallas, defeating Southern Methodist University 78-76 for their first road win and first Division I victory of the season.
Zaay Green, a native of Duncanville, Texas, scored a game-high 23 points and made a crucial two free throws with 6 seconds remaining in the game. She also contributed 9 assists and 8 rebounds in front of a supportive crowd of friends and family at Moody Coliseum.
Despite their struggles from the free-throw line throughout the game, the Lady Lions managed to secure the win. Kaila Walker added 12 points with four 3-pointers, while Maya Peat scored 11. SMU’s 76 points were the fewest UAPB has allowed against a Division I opponent this season.
The game saw both teams trading leads and dominating different quarters, with UAPB eventually coming out on top. The Lady Lions will remain in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to play North Texas at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
