The town of Wilmar, located in Drew County, was shaken by a tragic incident early Sunday morning that resulted in the deaths of two men from apparent gunshot wounds. The Drew County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division to take charge of the investigation into what is being classified as a double homicide.
The incident came to light when deputies responded to a 911 call at the old Wilmar School on North 5th Street around 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of two men, identified as Suquorey Pitts Jr., 25, of Dumas, and Independence Young, 21, of McGehee. Pitts was found in a vehicle parked in the school’s driveway, while Young was found lying on North 5th Street. Both men had suffered gunshots wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The bodies of the deceased have been slated for transportation to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact manner and cause of their deaths.
Wilmar, a small town with a population of approximately 500, is situated between Warren and Monticello. The community mourns the loss of these two individuals and hopes that the investigation will lead to swift justice for the perpetrators.
