Saylor Poffenbarger and Taliah Scott led the Arkansas women’s basketball team to a 66-58 victory over Illinois-Chicago at the West Palm Beach Classic. Poffenbarger scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Scott contributed 26 points to secure the win. The Razorbacks also defeated Illinois 60-59 in their previous game, with a buzzer-beater layup by Maryam Dauda.
Coach Mike Neighbors expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “The way you finish is the way you go into the holidays.” Arkansas maintained a solid lead throughout the game, with Poffenbarger scoring 11 consecutive points at a crucial moment.
Poffenbarger, a redshirt sophomore, showcased an impressive performance, recording 5 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. Neighbors praised her for her consistent double-double performances and all-around contribution to the team.
Scott was a key player in the first half, scoring 18 of her game-high 26 points and securing a lead for Arkansas with her three-pointers. Despite UIC’s strong effort, Arkansas maintained control of the game.
The Razorbacks shot 37.8% from the field and held their opponents to 39.1% shooting. Notably, Arkansas limited UIC to a 2-of-13 clip from three-point range in the invitational.
Coach Neighbors expressed optimism about the team’s progress and praised their unity and teamwork. Arkansas is scheduled to play next on December 31 when they host Incarnate Word in Fayetteville.
