In Loving Memory of Frank Fritz: A Tribute to a Beloved Adventurer

Frank Fritz, the former co-host of the History Channel’s American Pickers, tragically passed away on September 30 at the age of 58. The announcement was made by his friend and co-host, Mike Wolfe, via Instagram on October 1. While the cause of death remains undisclosed, Wolfe expressed his sorrow, stating, “It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night.”

Reflecting on their long friendship, Wolfe shared, “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what you saw on television was a true reflection of who he was—a dreamer, equally sensitive and humorous. Off-camera, he was just the same, connecting with countless hearts by simply being himself.”

Wolfe reminisced about their adventures together, recalling, “Who would have imagined we would share the cockpit of a white cargo van in front of millions, captivated by our escapades? Before the show, we would embark on journeys to uncharted places, driven only by our shared passion for discovery.” He concluded with heartfelt sentiments: “I feel blessed to have been by his side during his final journey home. I love you, buddy, and will miss you immensely. I know you’re in a better place.”

The news was initially confirmed by Fritz’s friend, Annette Oberlander Willows, who posted on Facebook, stating, “This is a very tough announcement to make. Frank passed away last night around 7:30, surrounded by friends, including Mike Wolfe, who made a rapid journey back from Nashville.” She urged for kindness during this challenging time, saying, “Please understand this is a very rough time for us, including Mike, as we figure out how to cope with this. Thank you all for your love and support over the years.”

American Pickers, produced by A&E Networks in collaboration with Cineflix Media, debuted on January 18, 2010, on the History Channel. The series followed Wolfe and Fritz as they traversed the nation in search of unique Americana artifacts and treasures, either for resale or for their personal collections.

The official account of the History Channel also expressed its condolences on X, stating, “We are saddened to share that our friend and cherished member of The History Channel and American Pickers family, Frank Fritz, has passed away on September 30, 2024.”

Born on November 11, 1963, Fritz stepped away from the series in 2020. Wolfe publicly announced his partner’s departure on Instagram in 2021. The following year, Fritz faced health challenges, including a serious stroke that led to his hospitalization. Although rumors circulated about a feud between the two friends, Fritz clarified in interviews that their falling-out was temporary. In 2021, he also disclosed his struggles with alcohol and his admission to a rehabilitation facility.

Wolfe poignantly remarked, “I have known Frank for as long as I can remember; he has been like a brother to me. I will miss Frank, just like all of you, and I pray for the very best as he embarks on this next part of his journey.”
