Packers’ Jordan Love Injured in Season Opener Loss to Eagles

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was helped off the field with a lower left leg injury during the final moments of the team’s 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo on Friday night. With just six seconds remaining, Love was unable to complete the game and required assistance to reach the sideline.

Despite showing some improvement in his mobility as he walked to the locker room, Love still needed support from head athletic trainer Nate Weir and running back Josh Jacobs, who helped him on either side.

Coach Matt LaFleur was unable to provide an update on Love’s condition during his postgame press conference, stating simply, “I don’t know,” when asked about the quarterback’s status. Love did not address reporters following the game.

Wide receiver Christian Watson expressed confidence in Love’s resilience, saying, “We know what kind of guy he is, how he approaches everything. Whatever it is, I know he’s going to get through it. We’re going to get through it.”

The injury occurred as Love was attempting a final drive to potentially tie the game. After completing a 33-yard pass to Jayden Reed, Love was hit by Eagles defenders Jalen Carter and Josh Sweat, causing him to twist his leg while falling. He managed to toss the ball to Jacobs before going down.

Malik Willis, recently acquired from the Titans, took the final two snaps in Love’s place, including an incompletion and a sack. The Packers’ only other quarterback option is Sean Clifford, who was released during final cuts but re-signed to the practice squad.

Love’s injury came in his first regular-season game following a substantial four-year, $220 million contract signed on July 26, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid players. He had limited preseason action, playing only three snaps in the opener and sitting out the final two games.

Defensive lineman Kenny Clark expressed hope for Love’s swift recovery, saying, “That’s the franchise right there. Hopefully, he can be back next week and he can be all right.”

Love finished the game with 17 completions on 34 attempts for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
